A brief history of peer review

Peer review is often taken as the gold-standard in academia and used as a seal of approval for a scientific study. Additionally, many academics mistakenly believe modern peer review to be over 350 years old. Surprisingly, academics are not taught the history of peer review with many not understanding where this process originated or how it has continually evolved over time.
